Project to repair broken desks, chairs in WP schools

Under the initiation of the Western Province’s (WP) Agriculture, Agrarian Development, Minor Irrigation, Industries and Environment Minister, Udaya Gammanpila, a project was commenced to repair broken desks and chairs of schools within the Province.

Arethusa College, Dehiwala, was one of the schools where repairs were undertaken on Friday, through this programme.

The school’s Principal Bimla Vidyanthi told Education Times that the project was a benefit to their school as well as other schools within the Province.

Funds allocated to each Provincial Council Member for development purposes is utilised for this project.

About 120 schools were selected for this project, and work in 64 schools are said to have been completed.

Workers for the project were selected from the vocational training programmes provided by the WP Department of Industries, and are paid on a daily basis.

The schools were selected following requests made by their respective principals of the province.
