The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has called for tenders to build new bus stops in Colombo in view of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which is to be held in November.

Municipal Commissioner Badrani Jayawardena said the municipal council is hoping to pass a resolution once the tenders are confirmed to build bus stops within the Colombo city. She said some 300 to 500 bus stops will be put up along the routes to the CHOGM. The Road Development Authority is to put up bus stops from Kelaniya to Borella and the CMC will construct those from Borella to Ayurveda Junction.

Accordingly a bus stop has been put up near the former race course. When queried about it Ms. Jayawardena said the specific bus stop has been built by the Army from its funds.

When asked about the approximate allocation from the CMC to build these bus stops, she said it has not yet been confirmed since the resolution is yet to be passed in the CMC.
