The Government wants to introduce a special loan scheme for members of the armed forces, employees of statutory boards, corporations and state banks to buy houses. Ministers have decided that an official committee will examine how this scheme should be worked out under the Government’s “Nilsevana Housing Project.”

The committee will comprise a representative of the Treasury Secretary (Chairman), an officer from the Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs and an official from the Ministry of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities.

The move follows a recommendation made to the Cabinet by Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne. The committee has been asked to submit its report within one month.
