It was changes galore as Blue Star and Solid SC marched their way to the top of their respective point tables in the Dialog Champions League (DCL) 2013, as the competition finished its third week.

Blue Star regained their top position in the Group ‘A’ table as Solid SC recorded their second surprise win to take hold of the Group ‘B’ table after a eventful third week’s play.

Group ‘A’ leaders Blue Star recorded their second win of the competition last weekend, against glamour boys Saunders as they accumulated six points overall. Next to them at number two are Colombo FC, who salvaged a thrilling draw against the former champions Ratnams after trailing until the very last moments of the game. This outcome pushed Ratnam down to third position. Then comes Navy SC at fourth after they finished last week’s match by a thrilling 1-all against Negombo Youth, who remains in sixth place. Placed in-between at fifth are Java Lane, who were held to a resounding 1-all draw by bottom seeded Super Sun, who could have easily pulled off a thrilling win if not for their two missed goals. Former master blaster in cricket Sanath Jayasuriya’s club, Matara City, one of the six newcomers in this year’s competition, managed to hold Air Force to a scoreless draw. This result keeps Matara City in seventh position while Air Force remains unchanged at ninth. Saunders are slotted at eighth in the Group ‘A’ table.

The Group ‘B’ table is led by newcomer Solid SC, who followed their previous week’s triumph against Police SC with a solid performance to beat favourites Kalutara Park by 4-nil. Solid SC now have made up seven points to their tally after winning two and losing a game in three outings. Debutants Upcountry Lions emerged as another upset-maker in the competition after recording an impressive 2-1 win against the strong Renown outfit.

This weekend the DCL will not feature any matches due to Vesak holidays but ten matches will go down for decisions before Wednesday. On Tuesday Ratnam will take on Java Lane at Longdon Place while Nandimithra and Pelicans are set to meet at Kelaniya. The remaining eight games will be played on Wednesday. They are Saunders vs. Air Force at Kelaniya, Navy vs. Matara City at Welisara, Super Sun vs. Negombo Youth at Beruwela, Blue Star vs. Colombo FC at Kalutara, Police vs. Kalutara Park at Police Park, Renown vs. Solid SC at Longdon Place, Army vs. Upcountry Lions at Homagama and Don Bosco vs. New Youngs at Don Bosco.
