Start your British degree with a foundation programme

It is natural for students to develop negative emotions over poor examination results or parents to be upset and confused at the same time about what they should do next. Well examinations are not the perfect way to measure ones intellectual abilities, mental functioning or level of aptitude. Most examinations measure attainment, the degree one is able to remember from what was told to them in class rooms over years. Thus examination results do not and shall not be considered predictors of future success of any individual. Therefore brooding over poor results would not do anything but lower your self-esteem and waste time that you could have utilized to start something different that you would succeed in. What matters most after A/L is to understand what field of study is best suitable for you. Compatibility between ones personal characteristics and the field of study and occupation is very important for long term success and most importantly, satisfaction.

Considering this, the academic board of Colombo Institute of Research & Psychology has decided to open doors to students who have not fared well in their A/L to obtain a Psychology degree from a prestigious UK university, which was only possible for students with higher A/L results in the past. The individuals who have achieved at least 2 passes in any stream are able to enter the Higher National Diploma (HND) program in psychology and upon completion of the HND, to enter the final year of the BSc program, and the individuals who have not passed A/L but has passed O/L with Maths and English are able to enrol for the foundation programme which would provide them with the basic knowledge and skills that would prepare them to enter the HND and then continue to the BSc.
Many private colleges allow students with O/L directly in to the degree programs but CIRP has decided not to do that as it is known factor that many of these students perform poor in the degree programmes as they do not have the knowledge and skills required to cope with the demands of a bachelors degree.

Therefore it is best they go through a foundation program and then enter the degree level. The foundation program is just 6 months, and it is wise to go through it rather than risking poor performance in a degree program that could waste money, time and effort.
The foundation program at CIRP commences in February and the students who complete their foundation successfully can start their degree program in September.
