Sri Lanka’s proposed Saki Knowledge and Technology Park in Hambantota got a major boost with the entry of Trimax IT Infrastructure and Services Ltd, an Indian IT company to set up a Rs. 3.5 billion data centre, company officials said

The company signed the official agreement with the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology, Sri Lanka to set up the Saki Data Centre at the proposed IT Park in Hambantota

Chairman and Managing Director, of the company, Surya Prakash Madrecha and Ministry Secretary H. M. Gunasekara signed the agreement.

This is the highest investment made by Trimax outside India, Mr. Madrecha told reporters on Wednesday in Colombo.
Sri Lanka has a great potential in becoming a knowledge hub in the region, and it is in a developing stage, he added.

He noted that the time is opportune to invest in Sri Lanka. The proposed data centre, which will be located on 10 acres of state-owned land leased by Trimax, is expected to attract 100 investors who would invest more than US$ 5,000 million generating 100,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, he revealed.

The Saki Data Centre will provide shared, secured and managed infrastructure for consolidating and hosting national level applications with a view to providing government-to-government, government-to-citizen and government-to-business services which would be fast, efficient, trustworthy and also provide a managed environment for citizens and businesses to conduct secure transactions. This constructive public private partnership between India and Sri Lanka will facilitate the creation of a lasting legacy for Hambantota, the district and the country as a whole. This will aid in promoting social, economic regeneration as well as make Sri Lanka a technology hub for all of Asia.

Trimax is a $156.8 million company with 11 offices, 600+ support locations and over 1600 employees in India.
