New Secretary to Sinhala Welande Mandalaya

The ‘ Sinhala Welanda Mandalaya ‘ in Kandy recently saw the election of a new Secretary, Jayampathi Rajapathirane.

He took office recently and says he has wide plans to uplift the trading community in the central region and not allowing them to be left behind (by other regions including the powerful business community in Colombo).

He told the Business Times in an interview that with the approval of the Board of Directors of the organization he hopes to have a special scheme to give assistance to traders who are in difficulties due to various problems they are facing with the turbulent times in the trade sector.

He said traders who have had a number of (business) years behind them should be helped out in difficult times. To this end he would proposing certain steps to ease their plight.

He also said that with through the sister organisation of the Madalaya, the SWP, he hopes to address a long term redress for the traders.

Mr. Rajapathirane, an old boy of Dharmaraja College, was Deputy Secretary of the Sinhala Mandalaya before he was elected as its Secretary. His main business is importing and distributing fruits in which he had been engaged for the last 20 years.
