Nawaloka Hospital has launched a new home medical service – is making it possible for anyone to access a doctor from their own home with the launch of the Home Ambulance unit this month.

Available throughout Colombo and its suburbs, Nawaloka Hospital’s Home Ambulance service is specifically to cater to people requesting a doctor to come to their homes to treat common ailments such as respiratory tract infections, colds, wounds, etc., without the potentially heavy costs that could result from medical emergencies.

“It is also ideal for the elderly, or the infirm, for whom travel is not easy. And, as this is a home visit, and not an emergency, there will only be a minimal cost added for the medical doctor’s time and the home ambulance fee,” the pioneer hospital company said. The home ambulances are fully geared to diagnose and treat a number of common medical issues, with ECG recorders to monitor the heart, glucometers to check blood sugar levels, ventilators to provide oxygen, intravenous (IV) drips to rapidly administer antibiotics, etc. Also on offer are wound treatment and dressing as well as inserting urethral catheters, and other common medical procedures.
