A frivolous collapse by our frontline batsmen miserably transformed a jolly making, beaming spectator crowd to dumbstruck bemusement and crestfallen abandonment. How about the plight of the countless TV viewers being sent to unscheduled retirement to their beds from the cozy sofas and chilled drinks they were royally enjoying? What a dismal disruption!

Dilshan was not on any fancy shots but it is humbly surmised that he could have been a victim of that cursed ‘bug bear’ of many a batsman with that unpredictable ‘blind patch’ confrontation, it seems!

Badree of the WI who took the wicket of Sanga reminds one of two relegated fielders in McGrath of Australia and Ishanth. Sharma of India in two separate international matches, years ago, taking catches from the same strategic ‘long on’ positions on the field to the dismay of poor Sanga – he has not learnt as he has got out in similar situations many a time thereafter! Slow bowler Badree should have been measured really and sent out of the grounds or in the alternative considering our plight “tapped down’ the bails.

Quality batsman Mahela resorting to the reverse sweep shot the under the circumstances can never be understood, especially with two fielders fielding patrolling surreptitiously on that side. The time for leading from the front was never realized – Indian captain Dhoni once hit our Vaas who was just wrecking them at that match 3 or 4 consecutive sixes and judiciously cleared the decks for the other batsmen to follow.

Mathews cross-batting for a huge shot was totally uncalled for! There were stacks of time and a target score to be followed up?
Let’s have consolation un-healing for all the matches to come.
