Young cricketers from the outstation dominated the proceedings on day two as little known Debarawewa MMV and S de S. Jayasinghe MMV Dehiwela pulled off the biggest upsets on day two of the 20th OWSC Munchee Glucofit Invitation School Sixes played at Campbell Park, yesterday. Debarawewa MMV knocked out defending champions Mahanama by four wickets. S de S. Jayasinghe MMV hit the daylights out of fancied Nalanda with a nine run victory.

Three other outstation teams to impress were Anuradhapura Central, Royal Panadura and Kokuvil Hindu College. Anuradhapura Central got the better of Zahira Colombo by three wickets while Royal Panadura recorded two wins, they first beat Carey and then overcame De Mazenod and Kokuvil Hindu defeated Gateway International.

President’s College Rajagiriya delivered the first shock when they knocked out two of the top cricket playing schools in the metropolis. Their first victim was host Wesley against whom they secured the win with a last ball six by Viraj who made an unbeaten 39 and later they followed it up with a comfortable 13 runs win over Royal College in a second round match after having scored a challenging score of 81 and then restricting their opponents to 68.

Moratu MV and D.S. Senanayake were the other two teams to record shocking wins. The two teams won both their matches with Moratu MV getting the better of Maris Stella and S. Thomas’ and DSS overcoming Kalutara MV and two times champions St Joseph’s.

Meanwhile four teams DSS, President’s Rajagiriya, Royal Panadura and Gurukula MV have qualified to the quarter finals while the other four teams will be decided from the matches played between Moratu MV vs Lumbini MV, Joseph Vaz vs Richmond, Kokuvil Hindu vs Debarawewa MMV and St Peter’s vs S de S. Jayasinghe MMV which is scheduled to be worked off from 8.00 a.m. onwards today.
The tournament organized for the 20th time by the Old Wesleyites Sports Club is sponsored by Ceylon Biscuits Ltd under the brand of Munchee Glucofit Sixes.
