Musaeus College Colombo recorded a sensational 1-nil victory over Seetha Devi Girls School Kandy to clinch the Gairls Hockey Championship of the National Schools Games. The final where Musaeus College bagged their first major victory in hockey was played at the Nandimithra Ekanayake Hockey Stadium in Matale on September 24.

The encounter was keenly contested between the two finalist teams but the Seetha Devi girls had the upper hand comparing with the opportunities earned by Musaeus stickers. Eventually both teams, who took the breather with a nil-all clean sheet, ended the game scoreless prompting the match officials to drag the game to extra time. However this duration proved fruitful for Musaeus as a neat pass from centre half Dinithi Sathyapala made left inside, Lithma Kumaradasa’s effort much easier in scoring their solitary and winning goal of the game.

Earlier Musaeus beat Sangamitta Girls School Matale by 1-nil in the semi-final with Dinithi Sathyapala slotting the winning goal. The third place was won by Sangamitta Matale who beat Pushpadana Girls School by 5-3 on penalty shootouts as the match ended in a thrilling 1-all draw. In the quarterfinal Kisharadee Wijemanne scored the winning goal to help Musaeus earn a thrilling 1-nil win against Uduvil College Jaffna.

The Musaeus hockey team led by Randima Hewage also included Gayathri Mayadunne as the vice captain. The rest of the members were Kisharadee Wijemanna, Binmi Rathnayake, Uvini Welihinda, Dinithi Sathyapala, Lithma Kumaradasa, Rashmi Ranasinghe, Harini Adikaram, Senori Rodrigo, Heshani Jayalath, Sajani Ramanayake, Sachinthya Rajapakshe and Theshmi Gunasekara.
