Beyond the Boundary- the annual 6-a-side cricket match organized by the Colours of Courage Trust which was held with the participation of 51 teams from the mercantile sector at the Bloomfield Grounds on August 18 was a success. The tournament was conducted to support a worthy cause – to aid the construction of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of the National Cancer Hospital in Maharagama.

As in the past, it was a day filled with spirit, camaraderie and passion as well as entertainment for kids and family. MAS Casualline came out as winners in an exciting finale against Union Assurance.

Present at the awards ceremony were Nick Nicolaou, CEO - HSBC, Manish Patel, Country Head - DHL, Priyantha Aluthwatte, CEO - A&E, Dian Gomes, Managing Director – MAS Intimates and Mahesh Amalean, Chairman - MAS Holdings.

With the help of the sponsors and participants the event this year raised Rs. 6.3 million, a target beyond expectations. The generous support from the corporate sector in terms of participation, donations and support was truly heart-warming.

The Colours of Courage Trust is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 to address the needs of the National Cancer Hospital, Maharagama. The Trust has organized several successful events towards supporting the construction of the Medical and Surgical Intensive Care Units at the National Cancer Institute, Maharagama. On September 5, 2011, in partnership with MAS Holdings and A&E, together with many generous donors the Trust handed over the first Medical Intensive Care Unit to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital. Despite being in operation for 50 years, the NCI did not have an MICU and this was the first MICU donated by the Colours of Courage Trust which also included a Dialysis unit.

The second phase of this project is the construction of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit which will be completed by October. HNB has come on board as a main sponsor of this project donating Rs. 10million towards the SICU which is a two-storied building with six beds.

All money raised through events of the Colours of Courage Trust will go towards funding the NCI’s requirements.
