To keep up with the trend of introducing 3D theatre experience to local filmgoers, Savoy cinema, one of the country’s premier theatres will be the latest theater to add this new technology.
The project which was done at a cost of Rs. 100 million has added the state-of-the art technology with a 4K projector and a silver screen which is being introduced for the first time in the country’s film theatres.
“With the new technology Savoy will provide international theater experience to our local cinema lovers at an affordable price,” said Chief Executive Officer of EAP Films, Thushan Rangana.
The theatre will have two classes; ‘Gold Class’ with a ticket priced at Rs. 650 and ODC at Rs. 400. The upgrading will really suit the colonial era theatre which was built by the British with the best acoustics, Rangana said.
Equipped with the 3D facility, Savoy will be mainly dedicated for Hollywood 3D movies while the screening of Sri Lankan movies will be shifted to Liberty cinema, one of the EAP theatres. With the new improvements, the Savoy theatre will introduce a novel system for ticket bookings where the patrons will have the box planned facility to book in advance the seats they want.
With the aim of making the most popular cinema network in Asia, EAP has opened a new theatre in Anuradhapura with the latest digital facility and another new theatre to the capital Colombo, at Excel World. “With the addition at present the cinema distribution company has 17 theatres and we are planning to increase that to 25 with foreign collaborations,” the CEO said.
The first movie that will be screened at the Savoy 3D will be ‘Ice Age 4’, one of the most anticipated animation movies in recent time.
