Gajaba Supercross on August 28

With the unambiguous vision of raising funds for the benefit of families of the deceased and those who went missing from the Gajaba Regiment during the three-decade ethnic war, the tenth edition of Gajaba Supercross will come into action on August 28 at Saliyapura.

This year 26 grueling racing events have been lined-up to thrill motor sport fans. oAmong them are 13 motorcar and jeep events and 13 motorbike events which will also see the participation of some foreign competitors. Four special events for riders who are under the age groups of under-10, 13 and 16 have been lined-up as 200 competitors vie for victory.

The Gajaba Supercross was initiated in 1999 by Hans Ralf, the then president of Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Drivers and Major General G.A. Gunasekara who served as the Regimental Commandant during that period. The grand motor show ran continuously until 2007 before it was stopped briefly due to the intensity of the war. But in 2010, Gajaba Supercross was reinstalled and this year it celebrates its tenth anniversary in grand style.
