President Rajapaksa at World University Games in China

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was a guest of honour at the opening ceremony of the World University Games held in Shenzhen China on the 12th of August. It would have been a proud moment for the 55 undergraduates from the Universities of Sri Lanka and the officials to see the president watching them parade at the ceremony.

The Sri Lankan contingent which is captained by Prathaj Haputhanthri was the flag bearer at the parade. The World University Games (Universiade) which is named as the mini Olympics games will go on till the 23rd of August. The Athletes from over 152 countries around the world which will be over 13,000 in number will be competing for 306 Golds in 25 events over the next couple of days.

Prathaj Haputhanthri and Kishanthan Thangaraja from the University of Moratuwa, Nilmin Arsakularathne and Dilshan Sooriyarachi from the University of Colombo Thualsi Weerasekara from the University of Peradeniya had the rare honour of representing the country at the last University games held in Serbia in 2009 too.
