Navy out for the kill

By Shamseer Jaleel

Navy Sports Club will be at full strength for their last outing against CR & FC at Welisara today. Navy playing some cohesive rugby with their supreme and mobile forwards who have done really well in the second round winning the games against Havelocks and defending champions Kandy SC.

Navy coach Ronny Ibrahim speaking to the Sunday Times said “we will go flat out to win this game and if possible with 4 or more tires to gain the bonus points. Anyway all depends on the Kandy and Havies game on who will win the League. Boys are at their peak. The only doubtful starter is our play maker Dev Anand who is nursing an injury and is very likely to be fit for today’s game”. Ronny ended by saying the forwards have combined well with the three quarters and are playing to their potential. “In the first round we were at the receiving end with some referees decisions went against us, if not we would have won the League by now” he said.

CR & FC Rugby Chairman Gavin Jayasekera speaking to the Sunday Times said “for sure we are going all out for a win. We want to end the tournament on high note. We have some injury worries players such as Srinath Sooriyabandara, Mohamed Sheriff, Sharo Fernando and Dunstan De Silva are injured but have equally good replacements”. He ended by saying that Reza Mubarak who played as fly half will move to his pet position as full back due to Mohamed Sheriff’s neck injury which will keep him away for at least 2 more weeks.
