The second MAS Holdings Group Novices Boxing Meet is scheduled to be held at the Slimline boxing ring in Pannala on June 13 and 14. The novices fought out for the Dian Gomes trophy will see over 120 boxers in the fray.
This tournament will be the stepping stone for the Boxers to participate in the Sri Lanka Amateur Boxing Association’s Novices Boxing tournament. These Boxers will gain the experience to continue at national level tournaments.
There will be nine clusters of the MAS Holdings namely Slimline Sports Club, Unichela Boxing Club, Linea Boxing Club, Thurulie Boxing Club, MAS Southern Boxing Club, Bodyline Boxing Club, MAS Designs Boxing Club, Bodyline Boxing Club and Silueta Boxing Club contesting in this meet.
Among the sports encouraged boxing has become the premier game in the group due to the enthusiasm of the rural sportsmen and women. Many of the boxers who represent MAS represent Sri Lanka in their respective weight category.
The first tournament saw Slimline Sports Club win the men’s trophies while the women’s bouts were won by MAS Southern. -MSA |
