Sri Lanka-China Journalists' Forum successfully hosted the 2nd consecutive China Education Exhibition at the University of Colombo on May 14. The Exhibition was sponsored in collaboration with the China Education Council and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka.

Expressing views at the occasion, Dr.Sunil Jayantha Nawarathne, Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education stated that China has become the world's number one global education provider. He also said the Chinese authorities would consider sending more Chinese students for higher education in Sri Lanka as the country is geared towards becoming the regional hub of education through its current socio-economic development process.

Mr.Nalin Aponso - the President of Sri Lanka-China Journalists' Forum, speaking at the occasion stated the exhibition would provide a unique platform for Sri Lankan students to find better and reputed educational partners in China, to fulfil their higher education requirements abroad. "We hope that the Chinese university authorities would consider holding fruitful discussions with the Sri Lankan authorities to offer similar education facilities in Sri Lanka in future," he added.

More than 14 renowned Chinese universities of several disciplines of education are participating in the two day education exhibition. It is open free of charge, to all local and overseas education enthusiasts, who eagerly await for higher education abroad.

Since 2007, China has become the sixth largest country in hosting international students. The top ten countries with students studying in China include: Korea, Japan, USA, Vietnam, Thailand, Russia, India, Indonesia, France and Pakistan.

Councillor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka- Han Tao, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo - Prof.Shanika Hiburegama, Deputy Secretary General of the China Scholarship Council - Li Jianming, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education - P.Ranepura, Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Higher Education - H.D.W.Perera, and a number of members of the Sri Lanka - China Friendship Associations were also present at the occasion.
