St. Peter’s massacre Dharmaraja

By David Stephens

Combining blistering and awesome power, St. Peter’s College steamrolled Dharmaraja College to record a resounding 58-0 victory in their Under 20 ‘A’ Division Inter-School Rugby encounter at Bambalapitiya yesterday.

The Peterites, playing on their home turf made easy work of Dharmaraja, pummeling them for four goals and six tries. Sandun Herath, Bhanuka Nanayakkara, Dhanuska Ranjan, Asitha Rathnayake, Shenal Dias, and Keith Gurusinghe thundered over the line for St. Peters.

St. Peters started their massacre early through their wing three quarters Sandun Herath. Herath darted over the line in just the 4th minute of the match to complete a move filled with fine passing and individual brilliance.

Five minutes later Herath once again tormented Dharmaraja with a try that so closely resembled the first it could have been a video replay. Yet again St. Peter’s broke through the Rajan ranks with ease and once through, with a burst of pace, left them firmly in their wake. Srinath Perera made a successful conversion.

As the first half progressed Dharmaraja managed to survive several close shaves until Centre Dhanuska Ranjan and Flanker Asitha Rathnayake flew over the line just before the halftime whistle and St.Peter’s led 31-nil.
