HNB MD/CEO gets top Asian Banker award

The prestigious QFC – Asian Banker Leadership Achievement Award for Sri Lanka 2010 was recently awarded to Managing Director/CEO of Hatton National Bank (HNB) Rajendra Theagarajah.
A press release from HNB noted that the award is part of Asian Bankers commitment to promote the importance of leadership in developing a sound and sustainable financial services industry.


At the awards

The research study for the award programme is backed by the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC). "The award is testimony to the pivotal role Mr. Theagarajah had in building HNB as one of Sri Lanka’s best performing banks with a sophisticated business that straddles a broad range of business lines with strong fee generating capabilities, the press release stated.

HNB’s well paced expansion, a leap that has challenged all other financial institutions and its dedication to financial education and other social initiatives have been key factors in winning this award," the statement said. The Board of Advisors and Selection Committee comprising an esteemed and distinguished panel was headed by David Eldon, the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Financial Centre Authority and formerly Chairman of HSBC Asia Pacific recognized that as a result of Mr. Theagarajah’s leadership.

HNB qualified through stringent criteria to qualify as ‘Strongest Banks in Country 2010’. The award was received in Singapore from Neel Kashkari, former Assistant Secretary at the US Treasury Heading the TARP Programme.
