Hemas to build pre-schools in war-torn areas

Hemas Holdings, a leading local conglomerate, recently laid the foundation stone to build a new pre-school in Jaffna, at a cost of Rs. 7.5 million. The new 'Hemas Piyawara Pre-School,' which is situated in Nallur, is expected to be completed by October this year, said Hemas Holdings PLC in a press release.
The company plans to build more pre-schools in war affected parts of the country through grants from international organisations.

“Our intention is to build four more such pre-schools in the war-torn areas of Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mannar and Mullaitivu. We are looking to raise funds for the balance schools through grants from international organisations,” said Hemas Corporate Communications Manager, Shiromi Masakorala.
Piyawara is a community service project by Hemas in association with the Children’s Secretariat of the Ministry of Child Development.

Hemas initially set up pre-schools and play areas in Menik Farm, in Vavuniya, since February 2009. These pre-schools provided services to several thousand internally displaced children and are still functioning. At present Hemas fosters 32 pre-schools throughout the country with an investment of approximately Rs. 200 million.
