BATA-Sunday Times Most Popular School Boy Cricketer of the year contest 2009 Ghouse, Kumara and Niyas are the most Popular Cricketers

Isham Ghouse Indunil Kumara Aadhil Niyas

After the battle that went on for six full moons Isham Ghouse of Zahira College, Maradana, S.H. Indunil Kumara of Devapathiraja MV, Ratgama and Aadhil Niyas of Gateway International, Rajagiriya have crowned themselves as the most popular schoolboy cricketers for the year 2009.

Ghouse the winner of the All island Contest who took over the lead from St. Peter’s allrounder Angelo Perera halfway through the contest, did not concede to the immense pressure piled on him and beat Perera by a comfortable 6394 votes. However in the last count Ghouse polled only 15752 votes as against the 19906 votes polled by Perera.

While the Allisland Contest was almost one-sided, the Outstation Contest was a real yo-yo affair with winner S.H. Indunil Kumara and Krishan Wickramarachchi changing the lead constantly. However Indunil Kumara received an unprecedented 20,080 in the final count to pip Wickramarachchi at the post.

Who was the most popular cricketer in the International School circuit was a foregone conclusion. From the early stages of the contest Niyas’ huge fan club kept on pumping votes in his favour for him to coast ashore without any hindrance.
