New Zealand cricketers will arrive in Sri Lanka on August 8 to take part in their ICC Future Tours Programme series and a tri-series that also involves India making it a hectic hind half of the year.
Secretary of SLC Nishantha Ranatunga speaking to the Sunday Times said “It’s going to be a hectic period. In the first half of the series New Zealand cricketers are scheduled to be involved in two Tests which will take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club Grounds and the Tamil Union Grounds.”

Once the serious part of the tour is over the Kiwis will be involved in three one-day international matches and two T20 matches. According to the SLC secretary the limited overs matches will be played at the Khettarama Stadium.

The Indian team will arrive in the island once the FTP series is over. The tri-series in all probabilities will also be confined to the Khettarama Stadium as it is the only venue at present that could host a day-night game.

In the tri-series the teams will play each other once and the two table leaders will play the final, making it a fitting precursor to the ICC Champion’s Trophy tournament which will begin in South Africa immediately after this tournament.

Meanwhile Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited Sri Lanka to take in the Champions League T/20, which will be held in India from 8th to 23rd October 2009.

Sri Lanka will be represented by Wayamba who won the Lankan inter Provincial T20 tournament. The team will be led by Jehan Mubarak and also have players in the calibre of former Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardena, Jeevantha Kulatunga, Mahela Udawatte, Ajantha Mendis and Farveez Maharoof.
