Stigmata rides the lunar tide

Stigmata have passed 50, 000 hits on their official Myspace site and are the first Sri Lankan based Rock Band to accomplish those figures.

Stigmata have also been confirmed to perform at SUE 2009 (Southern Ultimate Explosion) on July 11 and 12 at the Rookies Club, Malaysia. The event features an array of leading bands from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia and Stigmata will perform a one and a half hour set to close both nights.

The band is hard at work on their third highly anticipated third album – the follow up to 2006’s ‘Silent Chaos Serpentine.’ Although they commence recording in May 2008, Stigz are taking their time in honing one of the most eagerly awaited Metal albums in Asia at the moment. The band hopes to finish recording the new album in June/ July and would like to target a late August release if all works according to plan.

According the band, “So far the new songs are shaping up well and it’s really vibrant and we are all psyched to try and do justice to these songs. This is by far the most expansive and provocative material we’ve ever created, and easily the most intense stuff in terms of arrangements, scope, style and execution. We’ve really pushed the envelope on this one by chiseling something remarkable and unpredictable but never sacrificing melody, harmony, feel and relevance in the process.

This is also the most costly album we’ve worked on self-financing it ourselves and we’ve taken a hell of a lot of time… but it will all help make this album an unforgettable rollercoaster ride. No studio gimmicks and tricks…this is what Heavy Metal is about. It’s raw, it’s evocative and passionately created. A lot of blood, sweat and tears have gone into the composition, fine-tuning and the production of these tracks. Is the wait worth it? What do you think?”

Stigmata will perform what is rumored to be their last local concert before the album launch later this year on Saturday July 4 at the Punchi Theater (37, Dr. N.M Perera Mawatha, Borella, Colombo 8) alongside two of the country’s finest rock acts. The event is aptly titled Splitting the Paradigm and is already one of the most hyped up events on Facebook.
