Taking center stage

By Natasha Fernandopulle

The Revelations conducted by Sanjeev Jayaratnam continues to bring honour to Sri Lanka this time by becoming the World’s 6th ranked Male Vocal Choir and the only Choir from Asia to do so according to the latest rankings released by Music Mundi.

A concert will be staged by them to celebrate 15 years of providing uplifting and joyful music to appreciative audiences in Sri Lanka and overseas.

One of the most notable features this time will be them performing a few originals of which one of them will be a song of reconciliation of which the music has been composed by Sanjeev Jayaratnam.

“We have invited a number of top choirs in Sri Lanka to join us to sing this particular song,” says Ishan de Lanerolle, President, The Revelations. He went on to state that a lot of light numbers will be performed this time around. “The numbers will be ones that people can relate to,” he said, adding, “They will be quite catchy and we hope they will enjoy it.” In terms of the level of music, he says, “We have been lifting the bar and some harmonies are very intricate.”

In 2007 The Revelations brought honour and glory to Sri Lanka by becoming the only choral group in Sri Lanka to win a Gold Medal and become ‘Champion of the Asian Choir Games’ as well as ‘Champion of the Asian Open’ at the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia in November 2007.

The Revelations then went on to become the only choral group in Sri Lanka to win a Gold Medal and be titled ‘Champion of the World Choir Games’ not once but twice over, at the Asian Choir Games. They also won a Silver Medal at the World Choir Games held in Graz, Austria in July 2008. 20,000 participants comprising 441 Choirs from 93 countries were part of The World Choir Games.
