Leading the way

The Youth Music Council, which was inaugurated earlier this year, will be hosting a seminar on Western music practicals this month.

The seminar will be conducted by teachers from the four schools of the Council while Shanthi Bandara will be a guest speaker. “When we did our O’Levels last year we didn’t know what was coming for the exam, so we want to give these students an idea as to what they can expect,” says Abisha Nevins.

As part of helping out these students, the Council plans on distributing model question papers on the O’Level practicals along with samples of pieces of sight reading. In addition a CD on popular compositions will be sold. The CD is aimed at helping out students identify what forms such compositions are in and what period they belong to and will be priced at Rs. 100/-.

The Youth Music Council was inaugurated March 3, 2009. The schools forming the co-council are S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia, Bishop’s College, Nalanda College and Ladies’ College and it was formed with the main aim of helping to prepare students for their Ordinary Level Examination.

The seminar will be held on Thursday June 18, 2009 from 8.30am to 1pm at the Ladies College Main Hall. For further details contact on the seminar, please contact Nethmini on 077 174 8883 or Abisha on 077 368 6087.
