Madagascar opposition: President is removed

ANTANANARIVO, March 14, (AFP) - The Madagascar opposition told journalists today that President Marc Ravalomanana and his government had been removed from office after it took control of the prime minister's office.

"The President of the Republic, the National Assembly and the Senate, and the government are removed from their duties," said opposition leader Roindefo Zafitsimivalo Monja, reading from a declaration signed by opposition chief Andry Rajoelina.

The opposition also said presidential elections would be held within two years.
