‘To God be the Glory’ : Ruwangi’s maiden effort

'To God be the Glory' is an exceptionally beautiful collection of songs in praise of God sung by Ruwangie Marcella Cooray.

Ruwangie is a member of "Soul Sounds", Sri Lanka's premier all-female vocal ensemble. Her powerful soprano voice is an asset to "Soul Sounds" which gained international fame when it bagged two Silver Medals at the World Choir Games held in China in 2006 and three Gold Medals at the World Choir Games held in Austria this year (2008). She is also one of the soloists in the group.

Ruwangie first exhibited her vocal talents at St. Joseph's Church Ratmalana, where her enchanting voice embellished the Church choir, and then through the portals of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, where her musical potential was further chiselled by her close association with the Familian Choir throughout her school career.

She complemented her practical training in singing by sitting examinations in Pianoforte and Singing conducted by the Trinity College of Music, London, at which she excelled.

She works for HSBC Global Service Centre in Rajagiriya in the Department of Projects & Planning. Although music is her pet interest, she takes similar interest in career advancement and is now an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Ruwangie's deep love for music has culminated in this CD, where she raises her heart in thanks and gratitude to God through this collection of songs. She asserts that her loving parents and caring sister are her main source of inspiration.

Ruwangie is thankful to Georgy de Silva of Simply Waves Studio who was responsible for the musical arrangements and for the recording of the CD. Her teachers, Mrs. Soundarie David Rodrigo, Mrs. Menaka Sahabandu and Mrs. Prema Ratnayake, for developing her talents in Singing and Pianoforte playing. Her Producer and friend, Sajith Perera and his wife Thahani for their untiring efforts to get the CD mastered and pressed in Singapore, ensuring the high quality of the CD and countless others who have supported her in this endeavour.
