‘Heritance Ahungalla’ : Heritage of the South
By Sanath Weerasuriya

Heritance Ahungalla, one of the legendary Geoffrey Bawa's architectural fantasies, is now a popular place for seminars and conferences. With the expansion of MICE Tourism in Sri Lanka, Heritance Ahungalla became the hub of work plus leisure destination in South coast.

The hotel offers two attractively developed conference packages namely ‘Ahungalle Package’ and ‘Heritance Package’. ‘Ahungalle Package’ includes mid morning refreshments, lunch, mid afternoon refreshments and equipment such as PA system, screen, magi board, flip chart board, over head projector and other facilities.

‘Heritance Package’ gives more luxury and offers cold and hot beverages, perking ups, giveaways and extra equipment, apart from the usual package. The name ‘Heritance’ came from the combining ‘heritage’ with 'inheritance', which replaced the old name Triton few years ago.

The most attractive feature of the hotel is, where the uninterrupted line of sky merging with the sea, gives the illusion of continuous flow right into the blue waters of the main swimming pool. Renowned artist, Laki Senanayake's painstakingly magical art in charcoal of the Sinharaja forest along the staircase wall from floor to ceiling spreads like a fine lace curtain.

Apart from the artistic and architectural side of the hotel, food and beverages, recreation, water sports, excursions and other activities take the centre stage , when it comes to destination holiday. The 'Mustard', a 24-hour coffee-shop, overlooks the pool with a lone flautist, fishing boat moored on the water contribute to a leisurely meal and a tranquil evening.

The 'Jute' main restaurant gets its name from the unusual blend of colours from the Ena de Silva batik-on-jute ceiling provides dappled reflections during breakfast and lunch. The 'Upper Room', for fine dining ~ almost medieval in appearance, with circular seats and mirror work, the wooden grills open to the pool and the ocean by day, and treats the diner to a magnificent view from dusk to nightfall.

The Pool Bar provides cool and refreshing thirst quenchers to those emerging after a swim, while the Lounge Bar on the first floor takes in the panorama of pool and sea. For recreation, in addition to two large swimming pools, there is tennis, badminton, a fully equipped gym and a host of other activities. Internationally acclaimed Six Senses spa is in operation as part of one of Sri Lanka's largest spa complexes.
