Ground-breaking research carried out in Sri Lanka has resulted in the discovery of one of the genes which determines the weight of babies at birth.
 
Policing the police
As Chairman of the Sri Lanka Police Inspectors' Association (SLPIA), I wish to state categorically that we will be in favour of a policy decision if initiated where all applicants who possess degrees from recognized Universities are recruited as Probationary Sub-Inspectors of Police. This is in view that it would enhance the quality of the service considerably.The salient facts are summarized below:-
 
Checking out Chennai
Our destination was Chennai, formerly Madras. Chennai is India's fourth largest metropolitan city, located on the Coromandel coast of the Bay of Bengal. With an estimated population of 6.98 million (2006), it is the third largest commercial and industrial centre in India. The name Madras came from Madraspatnam, which was the site chosen by the British East India Company for a permanent settlement in 1639.
