French guitarist to perform

Gifted young French guitarist Thibault Cauvin will be heard in concert at On Golden Pond, Taj Samudra on May 17, on a visit to Colombo sponsored by the Alliance Francaise. Well-known sitarist Pradeep Ratnayake and Friends will perform during the first half of the concert.

Cauvin captured the first prize in the 2004 San Francisco International Classical Guitar Competition, the only guitar competition of its kind in the world. He was also awarded a recording contract with GSP Records.

Thibault Cauvin was born in 1984 in Bordeaux. Since the age of six, he has been studying classical guitar, under the direction of his father, the guitarist and composer, Philippe Cauvin.

Thibault now has a career as a concert soloist. He has given many concerts in prestigious halls and festivals in Europe — Radio France, Paris; Royal Festival Hall, London; Festival Andres Segovia, Madrid; Bonner Meisterkonzerte, Bonn, etc.

Thibault will also perform on May 18 at 7 p.m. at Matara at the Nupe Cultural Centre and on May 19 at Kandy's Children's Library at 7 p.m.
