Pramod Ranatunga Memorial Trust organises medical camp

More than 1,500 men, women and children were treated at a medical camp held at the Wijayapura Maha Vidyalaya in Diyasenapura, Hingurakgoda in early April while medicines, books, stationery and milk powder were also distributed among needy villagers.

These activities were all organized by the 'Dr. Pramod Ranatunga Memorial Trust' launched on March 31, by Dr. Ranatunga's wife together with relatives and friends, to carry on the legacy of serving people.

Dr. Ranatunga, a well-known Consultant Cardiologist passed away on September 11, 2005 after being diagnosed and treated for a malignant brain tumour. He was a pioneering Cardiologist in the country who worked selflessly for the public in his short lifespan of 45 years.

The medical camp in Hingurakgoda held in association with the Public Serving Unit of Devi Balika Vidyalaya was one of many such camps held regularly with the support and participation of medical officers and specialists from several hospitals around Sri Lanka.

The Trust also supports selected underprivileged medical students to continue their education till they pass out of medical school.
