Dhammika Fernando, Director of Tropical Findings (Pvt) Ltd, has been re-elected Chairman for the 2026/2027 of the Free Trade Zone Manufacturers Association (FTZMA) at its recently-held AGM. M.H.Z.M. Marzook, Director of Filotex Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, was re-elected as General Secretary while the positions of Vice Chairman were filled by Fazal Abdeen, Managing Director of ATG Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd and Nishantha Bakmeege, Director of Screenline Holdings (Pvt) Ltd. Manjula Mahadanaarchchi, CEO of Lalan Rubbers (Pvt) Ltd, was re-elected as the Honorary Treasurer, the association said in a media release.

FTZMA is a leading association representing foreign investors operating under the purview of Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI). Since it commenced its operation from Katunayake Free Trade Zone over 41 years ago, the association has been representing the foreign direct investments, expanding their presence to all Free Trade Zones as well as the outside locations of the BOI zones in the country.

Mr. Fernando, in his speech, emphasized that the FTZMA is one of Sri Lanka’s oldest and most established trade chambers, representing a wide range of export-oriented industries under the BOI framework. Unlike sector-specific bodies, it brings together diverse industries such as apparel, rubber, electronics, and engineering, and plays a key role in national labour dialogue. This broad representation gives FTZMA a responsibility to advocate not just for industry, but for national production, employment, exports, and investor confidence.

He highlighted the difficult global and local environment facing exporters, including geopolitical tensions in West Asia affecting trade routes and costs, as well as US tariff measures reducing competitiveness. Domestically, persistent issues such as bureaucratic delays, inefficiencies in the BOI system, and regulatory bottlenecks continue to hinder business operations and investment; and urged stronger government–industry partnership, stressing the need for ease of doing business, policy consistency, and faster processes.
