The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon marked the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with a vibrant and culturally rich celebration held in April 6th 2026 at T.B Illangarathne playground Angoda, bringing together students, academic and non-academic staff, and alumni in a spirit of unity and festivity.
The event commenced with a traditional New Year breakfast table featuring a variety of authentic Sri Lankan delicacies, organised by the students of the Institute. The occasion was attended by the President, senior academic members, and former office bearers, highlighting the strong sense of community within the institution.
A series of traditional New Year games, including Tug of War, Kotta Pora, Aliyata Asa Thabeema, Banis Kama and Thoppi Maru, added excitement and enthusiasm to the celebration. Participants actively engaged in these activities, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the day.
Adding color and vibrancy to the event, students, staff, and alumni were dressed in traditional attire, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka. The celebration not only provided entertainment but also served as a meaningful platform to strengthen relationships and promote cultural values among the IChemC community.
Such events continue to play a vital role in fostering unity and preserving traditions, while offering an opportunity for all members to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in a joyful and memorable manner.
