Lyceum Campus Hosts Inauguration Ceremony for the Higher Diploma in Nursing (NVQ Level 6)

The Higher Diploma in Nursing (NVQ Level 6) – Inaugural Batch Orientation Programme was successfully held on 30 March 2026 at Lyceum Campus, marking the official commencement of the programme. The event brought together students, academic staff, and industry setting the stage for a promising academic journey ahead
Offered by Lyceum Campus in collaboration with Kings Hospital, the programme integrates academic learning with Hands-on clinical training, equipping students with the skills and competencies required for rewarding careers in the healthcare sector.
The orientation programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr Udesh Oruthota, Director – Academic Affairs, Lyceum Campus. The session also featured a video presentation and keynote addresses by Dr Mohan Lal Grero, Founder of Lyceum Campus, and Dr Upali Banagala, Director, Kings Hospital.
A key highlight of the programme is its strong emphasis on practical exposure. Students will engage hands-on clinical training from the first year, with clinical exposure commencing as early as the fourth month of the programme. Training will be conducted at leading private hospitals including Kings Hospital, Nawaloka Hospital, Asiri Hospital, Ninewells Hospital, and Golden Key Hospital.
The programme offers an industry-recognised NVQ Level 6 qualification approved by TVEC, ensuring that graduates meet national professional standards. Selected students will also benefit from a guaranteed career pathway with Kings Hospital upon successful completion.
In addition, students will have access to scholarship opportunities of up to 50% , along with a free bridging programme for those without A/L Biology, making the programme accessible to a wider group of aspiring healthcare professionals.
Lyceum Campus is equipped with a state-of-the-art nursing skills laboratory featuring advanced simulation facilities, enabling students to develop essential clinical competencies in a controlled environment. The programme is delivered by experienced academics and senior healthcare professionals, supported by structured clinical schedules and continuous supervision.
Students will also benefit from strong academic and personal support systems, along with opportunities to explore multiple nursing specialisations such as Pediatrics, Geriatrics, and Psychiatry. The event also featured a session on “What Makes a Great Nurse?”, conducted by Prof Mohan De Silva and Dr Upali Banagala, along with the awarding of scholarships and an introduction to the Kings Hospital HR division. A campus tour was conducted, providing students with an overview of the facilities and learning environment.
This programme marks the beginning of a promising journey for Batch 01 as they take their first steps toward becoming skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals.
