Our Teardrop by Ranoukh Wijesinha was launched at the author’s alma mater, S. Thomas’ College on March 29.
The programme unfolded through a sequence of readings, speeches and acknowledgements. Readings by Kalasuriya Jerome De Silva, Warden Asanka Perera, together with a blessing and reading by Rev. Fr. Chandana, followed by young Shokeidh Billimoria and students of the Drama Society, ensured an attentive audience.
Excerpts from Our Teardrop revealed a work shaped by introspection, memory and emotional resonance. Poems such as Sounds of Ceylon and An Ode to Ceylon’s Serenity evoke the sensory richness of the island, from Colombo’s bustling streets to the rhythms of tuk-tuks, temple chants and coastal winds. The collection also acknowledges national grief, referencing the 2004 tsunami and the Easter Sunday attacks. Over and Over Again, explores the bond between a boy and a wounded elephant reflecting on loss and healing, while Chapel offers moments of spiritual introspection.
