Opener Chandupa Kavisha remained unbeaten on 63 as he put Dharmasoka College in a strong position at stumps on the opening day of the 57th Battle of the Blues against Sri Devananda College, which began at the Public ground in Ambalangoda yesterday.

Kavisha faced 99 deliveries and struck seven boundaries to see Dharmasoka take stumps at 128-2, with Kaveesha Matheesh remaining unbeaten on 26 off 45 deliveries with five fours at the other end. Dharmasoka still trail Sri Devananda by 77 runs with eight wickets in hand as the match reaches the final day today.

Put into bat, Sri Devananda faced a shaky start, but were steadied by a fighting knock by Nishith Thejawa, who hit 75 from 87 balls with seven fours and two sixes to top score. Coming in at middle, Savinu Gihansith played an enduring innings of 52, after facing 129 deliveries and hitting six fours and two sixes to see Sri Devananda reach 205 runs before being bowled out. Off-spinners Reshitha de Silva and Bingun Indumina shared five wickets.
