HP Inc. commits to SME growth with AI at the helm
With the growing digital economy in the country, technology giant HP Inc. is positioning itself to capitalise on artificial intelligence (AI) and the small and medium-sized enterprises sector in Sri Lanka.
With PC penetration below 20 per cent and increasing AI adoption, HP sees substantial opportunities for innovation, Ipsita Dasgupta, Senior vice President and Managing Director, HP India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, told a recent media roundtable in Colombo.
She highlighted a five-pillar strategic framework focusing on expanding access, accelerating digitisation, and fostering inclusive growth. Key initiatives include increasing PC ownership among children to bridge the digital divide, supporting MSMEs in their digitisation through AI, partnering with local enterprises for technology modernisation, collaborating with the government on national priorities like healthcare and education, and enabling the next generation of digital users. HP currently holds a 27 per cent market share in Sri Lanka, demonstrating strong demand across various sectors.
Noting that AI-enabled PCs are now 25 per cent of HP sales and in the next two years, more than half of global PC sales will be AI-enabled, she said that there is a need for related education and skill-set in the country. “We will discuss with the authorities on educational initiatives in this regard.” She also noted that collaboration on employability and MSME growth will be discussed with state officials. From AI-led healthcare diagnostics to scalable digital education models, HP is evaluating proof-of-concept initiatives that can drive measurable impact and expand access to essential services.
She noted that Sri Lanka is the fastest-growing market for HP, and it is a first-mover country.
