The Department of Business Economics, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health & Mass Media and the World Bank Group, will organize the Health Economic Analysis for Evidence-Driven Health Policies Workshop 2026 on March 3–4, 2026 at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo .

This high-level two-day workshop aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s capacity in health economics and Health Technology Assessment (HTA), supporting evidence-based, fiscally sustainable health policy decisions. As countries face rising healthcare costs, demographic transitions, and technological advancements, economic evaluation has become essential in ensuring value for money, affordability, and improved population health outcomes.

Day 1 of the workshop will focus on core principles of health economic analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, global burden of disease applications, and international experiences in HTA implementation. Day 2 will provide hands-on training sessions on conducting cost-effectiveness analysis, methodological case studies, and group-based priority-setting exercises relevant to Sri Lanka’s health system.

The event will bring together distinguished international academics and practitioners from leading global institutions including Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School (Singapore), Harvard University (USA), University of Tokyo (Japan), Fudan University (China), and HITAP Thailand, alongside senior officials and experts from the World Bank Group and the Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. Senior academics from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura will also contribute to the sessions.

Key areas of discussion will include:

•  Health Technology Assessment (HTA)

•  Cost-Effectiveness and Business Analysis in Health

•  Global Health Financing Strategies

•  Evidence-Based Health Policy Case Studies

•  Practical Applications for Priority Setting

The workshop will serve as an important platform for policymakers, academics, researchers, and health sector professionals to engage in dialogue and practical learning aimed at strengthening Sri Lanka’s health policy framework.

Limited seats are available for in-person participation, with online participation accessible via Zoom. Applications will be accepted until March 1, 2026.
