‘EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert’, a docudrama on the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley directed by  Baz Luhrmann is now being screened at Scope Cinemas Multiplex and IMAX: Havelock City Mall in Colombo.

Started on February 20, this follow-up film to Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic on Elvis, the screening of the IMAX version will be only till February 26. The theatrical version will be released from February 27 at Havelock city, CCC, KCC, PVR and few other cinemas around the country.

Premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, 2025, bagged Runner-up for People’s Choice Award for Documentaries, the documentary has received many positive reviews and accolades.

Born January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, screening started is also in line with Elvis’ 91st annual Elvis Birthday Celebration in Memphis, where the film kicked off on January 7.

Much prior to the world came to know as The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis’ journey started at the legendary Sun Studio, when a young, passionate man walked into the Memphis Recording Service and forever changed the sound of rock ’n’ roll.

The film also had its first advanced U.S. screenings at Presley’s former mansion, Graceland, on January 8, 2026 and thereafter followed exclusive release via IMAX theatres starting from February 20, 2026 worldwide including in Sri Lanka.

“Discover Elvis like never before with the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert. This collection features the show stopping performances featured in the film, including new mixes and fresh remixes of classic Elvis hits, along with two exclusive new tracks that blend and reimagine iconic Elvis performances, delivering bold, innovative interpretations that celebrate the King in an entirely new way,” stated in promoting the film internationally distributed by Universal Pictures. In making the film director Luhrmann originally sought out unseen footage of Elvis Presley from Elvis: That’s the Way It is and Elvis on Tour. This was for the filmmaker;s 2022 film on Elvis. He was lucky to find 68 boxes of both 35mm and 8mm footage were found in the Warner Bros film archives within salt mines in Kansas, including outtakes from both films, plus the “gold jacket” performance from Hawaii in 1957.  However the footage were without sound and over the next two years, it was the job of Luhrmann’s team to restore and sync to existing audio sources. Fortunately a 45-minute audio recording of Presley talking about his life story too was found and all these made the great documentary of one of the greatest musical legend in the history.

Luhrmann describing about the project has said it as neither fully a documentary nor a concert film, but “something new in the Elvis canon… that befits the magnitude of Elvis as a performer but also offers deeper revelations of his humanity and inner life.”

According to the producers, ‘EPiC’ unveils newly restored, unseen concert footage and intimate audio recordings capturing Elvis at his most powerful and vulnerable, brought to life in a brand-new cinematic experience.
