The Commercial Bank of Ceylon this week announced a total commitment exceeding Rs. 125 million towards recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah, including a donation of Rs. 110 million to the Rebuild Sri Lanka Fund, to help the country recover.

The bank’s contribution was presented by a representative group comprising of Sanath Manatunge, Managing Director/CEO; S. Prabagar, Chief Operating Officer and Ms. Ashani Senaratne, Assistant General Manager – Marketing, to Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President (see picture).

The bank, in media release, said it has launched several initiatives to address both immediate relief and long-term recovery needs, while also contributing towards improving the country’s disaster preparedness and risk management capabilities. As an immediate response, it donated dry rations to be distributed by the Sri Lanka Air Force among more than 5,000 flood-affected families. In support of business recovery, and following the announcement of relief measures by the Central Bank for disaster-affected borrowers, Commercial Bank extended financial assistance to help businesses stabilise and resume operations. Additionally, with education long recognised as a key corporate social responsibility priority, Commercial Bank supported children in returning to school by facilitating the clean-up of affected schools and providing essential stationery supplies.
