Duet- a joint exhibition by Namalee Real and Dinesh Perera will open to the public from December 23- January 3 at the Dinesh Perera Gallery at 1458B, Suriya Mawatha, Kalapaluwawa Road, Koswatta, Battaramulla.

Painting has always been a part of Namalee Real’s life. Whether travelling, at university, or playing the cello, Namalee’s cognizance has always been on painting. Her passion has been observing the light and shade, the tints of colour, the shape of a profile.

Paintings by Namalee and Dinesh

Namalee’s first exhibition was held in 2000 at the Havelock Bungalow. She has also exhibited more recently at Sapumal Foundation (NAP 2022), TRAX (NAP 2023) with Pia Fernando and Anup Vega.

Namalee studied art at Santa Monica City College, and at the University of California, Northridge (CSUN) though her major was Psychology. ‘Dreamscape’ is a genre that she has conceived. Each painting serves as a mirror to one’s own self at that moment, in a constant flux. Dreamscape is a still life of movement.

Dinesh Perera initially attended Peradeniya Sarasavi Uyana Vidyalaya and later D.S. Senanayake College.  He was also a member of the Young Contemporaries of the George Keyt Foundation, where he won awards.

In 1994, he joined Zeppelin Advertising Services as a visualizer, and was greatly motivated to experiment and learn another dimension of art. He had his first solo exhibition at the National Art Gallery. While at Zeppelin, Dinesh was greatly inspired by the paintings of Fareed Uduman and his painting took a completely different turn. He was closely involved in three exhibitions of Fareed Uduman, as well as the coffee table book about the artist.

The paintings displayed at the ‘Duet’ exhibition are a direct result of this revival in his interest, influence and inspiration.
