Second sequel of hit movie of famous musical fantasy
Following the immense success of its original sequel ‘Wicked’, musical fantasy movie made based on the generation-defining musical ‘Wicked for Good’ or ‘Wicked: Part Two’ is now being screened in theatres around Colombo and outstation.
Loosely based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, a reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and its 1939 film adaptation, the film is an adaption of the second act of the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman.
Directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, the film’s cast include Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Bowen Yang, Marissa Bode, Michelle Yeoh, and Jeff Goldblum who return from the first film, with Colman Domingo joining the cast.
The film is now being shown at Liberty by Scope Kollupitiya, SCOPE Cinema – Colombo City Centre and Havelock City Mall, PVR Cinema, Ram Cinema, Kandy City Centre and Regal Cinemas.
Set in the Land of Oz before and during the events of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the film explores the relationship between Elphaba and Glinda as they embrace their new identities as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
Now demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba lives in exile in the Ozian forest, while Glinda resides at the palace in Emerald City, revelling in the perks of fame and popularity. As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, she’ll need to reunite with Glinda to transform herself, and all of Oz, for good.
Produced by Universal Pictures, Principal photography on both films began in December 2022 in England. (SRF)
