Predator: Badlands An outcast turned hero
View(s):Newest Hollywood sci-fi action and the latest in the Predator film series ‘Predator: Badlands’ was released in cinemas last week.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the story revolves around an alien hunter and an unlikely ally embark on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. However he is cast out from its clan.
In the film, Dek, a young Yautja exiled from his clan, crash-lands on a hostile planet and must prove himself worthy of the hunt. Struggling to survive, he forms an unlikely alliance with Thia, a damaged Weyland-Yutani Corporation android, as they face off against an apex predator.
Dek is a Yautja runt from Yautja Prime, who seeks approval from his father, clan leader Njohrr, by vowing to hunt the Kalisk, a seemingly unkillable apex predator on the “death planet” Genna. Before he can leave however, Njhorr arrives and orders Dek’s brother Kwei to kill him, deeming him too weak for the clan. Kwei defies the order and remotely activates his transport ship to take Dek to Genna. Dek is forced to watch helplessly as Njhorr executes Kwei.
Upon crash-landing on Genna, Dek faces numerous environmental dangers from both flora and fauna. He reluctantly allies with Thia, a damaged Weyland-Yutani Corporation android, whose team was destroyed while attempting to capture the Kalisk. Thia offers to help Dek track the Kalisk.
The film stars Elle Fanning, Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi and Ravi Narayan in the stellar cast.
‘Predator Badlands’ is now being shown at Kandy City Centre, SCOPE Cinema – Colombo City Centre, SCOPE Cinema – Havelock City Mall, PVR Cinema, Ram Cinema, Lite Cinemas and Regal Cinemas. (SRF)
