Right-arm spinner Nushan Perera ended with an impressive match bag of 16 for 66 as he guided St. Joseph’s College to record a win by an innings and two runs over St. Servatius College, Matara in the Under-19 Inter-School Cricket Tournament encounter concluded at Darley Road yesterday.

Nushan, having bagged eight scalps on day one, repeated the same feat on day two as he sent St. Servatius, who were battling to erase a deficit of 114 runs, reeling at 112 runs. Earlier in the day, the Josephians resumed from their overnight score of 111-4 and declared at 236-9 in reply to St. Servatius’ score of 122.

St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa too succeeded to record an outright victory when they defeated De Mazenod College, Kandana by 6 wickets at Kandana. The architect of the win was right-arm spinner Damesh Mathishan, who ended with a match bag of 10 wickets. On the second day, the Vazians resumed from their overnight score of 80-2, but were bowled out for 151 in reply to De Mazenod’s score of 137.

De Mazenod succumbed for a score of just 70 runs in their second essay and St. Joseph Vaz reached the target of 57 runs for the loss of four wickets.
