Sam Fender Donates Mercury Prize to Save Grassroots Venues

Sam Fender, who won the Mercury Music Prize last month, has donated the entire proceeds to the Music Venue Trust (MVT). The 31 year old handed over the cash prize of £25,000, which was for his current album ‘People Watching’. The MVT works to protect grassroots music venues that are under the threat of closure. Fender has also raised over £100,000 on his 2024 tour to help 38 grassroots venues across the UK.


 

Lily Allen Makes Chart Comeback After 21 Years


Lilly Allen, one of the UK’s talented artists, has made a return to the Top 10 singles chart after an absence of 21 years. The 40 year old’s new song ‘Pussy Palace’ advanced from 12 to reach No. 8. The track is widely believed to be inspired by the break-up of her marriage to the actor David Harbour. Allen, who sings a variety of genres, also has a new album out called ‘West End Girl’. The current hit song is the 7th track on the album. Lilly has co-written her current hit song with Chloe Angelides, along with the track’s co-producers Blue May and Leroy Clampitt. ‘Pussy Palace’ is the 12th career UK Top 10 hit for Allen. She has also had three No.1 songs.


 

Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ Returns to Top 10 After Biopic Trailer Hype

The trailer for the upcoming biopic of the late Michael Jackson has led to renewed interest in his song ‘Thriller’. The track has returned to the UK’s Top this week, jumping from 33 to No.9. The song originally peaked at No. 10 as it graced the UK Top 10 in 1984. The trailer for Michael was aired on 6th November. As of 8th November, data provided by WaveMetrix indicates more than 116.2 million people watched the preview globally, making it the most watched music biopic preview. The film is set to be released on 24th April 2026. Meanwhile, Adam Fogelson, the Vice Chairman of Lionsgate Films, the company producing the movie in the US, has announced there will be “more Michael soon” on the big screen after the biopic is released next year.


 

Ed Sheeran Jokes About “Posthumous” Album Title ‘Idiot’

Ed Sheeran is considering a posthumous album, which he said will be called ‘Idiot’. He mentioned it on the Graham Norton Show on 7th November in a lighter vein, to a question posed by the host regarding his peculiar album titles. Ed’s current album ‘Play’ was released last September.
