Maestro Jude Peiris launches ‘Tone Project’ to teach music online

Renowned musician and music educationist, Jude Peiris launched his online music education platform, ‘Tone Project,’ on November 2, offering virtual lessons and creative guidance for aspiring musicians.

The website www.toneprojectsl.com is the result of years of hard work, experimentation and a novel vision for educating the next generation of musicians. The launch, held in the presence of renowned musicians, celebrated the fusion of tradition and innovation, introducing a platform designed to inspire, educate and connect music lovers across Sri Lanka and beyond.

Spearheaded by Jude Peiris, the project brought together Nimnada Jayamanna, Shehan Peiris, Nishad Jayamanna, Isuru Payoe and Kasun Jayakody, with administrative coordination by Roshani Peiris. The website’s elegant design is credited by Sven De Silva, whose artistic vision and ongoing commitment continue to refine the platform’s aesthetic and technical quality.

‘This is not just a website—it’s a movement to make music education more accessible, engaging, and relevant.  explained Jude Peiris.

Nishad Jayamanna, a key member of the ‘Tone Project’, leads the technical production of video and audio content. His responsibilities span filming, editing, mastering and ensuring that each piece meets the highest artistic and educational standards.

‘We’re doing our best with what we have’ said Nishad. ‘But to truly match international standards and give our viewers the immersive experience they deserve, we need better tools especially for capturing and mixing audio and video. Any support in this regard would be deeply appreciated’ he added. The launch ceremony was a vibrant celebration of Sri Lankan musical heritage and contemporary artistry. Legendary performers Harsha Makalanda, Anthony Surendra, Mahinda Bandara, and Sarath Fernando graced the stage with unforgettable performances. They were joined by Chanaka Soysa and Aran Fernando, adding depth and diversity to the musical line-up.

Renowned artistes from the industry including Ananda Dabare, Ravi Gamage and Sanjeewa Hettige were also present, lending their support to the initiative. The parents of the students of ‘Chamber of Music’ and well wishes were also present. A moment of spiritual reflection was led by Rev. Fr. Malith Thiwantha, who offered a blessing and prayer before the official launch of the website by Jude Peiris.

The ‘Tone Project’ website is a comprehensive platform featuring educational and performance videos including solo and ensemble works across classical, jazz, fusion and Sri Lankan genres and provides an eBook and relevant videos for Classical Guitar.

‘We hope this platform becomes a source of joy, learning and artistic growth for anyone passionate about music.Whether you’re a student, a teacher or simply a listener, there’s something available for each and every one’ said architect Peiris.

Musical journey of Jude Peiris

 

A distinguished figure in Sri Lanka’s musical landscape, Jude was born into a Catholic family in Ja-Ela. The son of the late Annesley Peiris and Mrs. Agnus Peiris, he began his education at Ja-Ela,

Kalaeliya Roman Catholic School and later attended De Mazenod College, Kandana.

At twenty, he joined the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) orchestra as a casual artiste, gaining valuable experience through studio recordings and live performances.

Throughout this period, Peiris collaborated with many of Sri Lanka’s leading musicians such as Ananda Dabare, and performance of the ‘Rodrigues Arangius Concerto’ with the Krasna Orchestra, stands out as a career highlight. He has also worked with renowned artistes such as Harsha Makalanda, Anthony Surendra, Mahinda Bandara, Sarath Fernando, Kalani Perera, Susil Amarasinghe, Priyananda Perera, the late Hemapala Gallage and V. Hemapala Perera. His lifelong association with the late Mr. Raju Jayakody adds a personal dimension to his musical legacy.

At 28, Peiris joined the Sri Lanka Navy as a Band Master and later completed the prestigious Band Masters Course at the Royal Marines School in the United Kingdom. Following his retirement from the Navy, Peiris founded the ‘Chamber of Music’, a music institute dedicated to nurturing talent across all levels, from beginners to professionals. Today, he continues to share his expertise through his website and musical ensemble, enriching the Sri Lankan community with both education and performance.
