Zonta programme on emotional abuse

View(s):

Zonta Club II of Colombo will host a programme on emotional abuse and its effects as part of the club’s observance of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The programme at the Cinnamon Grand on Nov 11 will feature a 1-hour sensitisation, followed by a panel discussion.

Emotional abuse remains one of the least discussed yet most pervasive forms of abuse in Sri Lanka. Gaslighting, verbal abuse, guilt and blame shifting, jealousy and possessiveness, humiliation, financial control are just a few of the methods of emotional abuse. Mental or emotional abuse can occur in any relationship — including among friends, family members and co-workers.

Zonta aims to begin this critical conversation and empower and equip participants with the knowledge to identify, address emotional abuse in their respective communities and professions.
