Sri Lanka gears up to host International Boat Show
“The blue economy is more than a vision — it’s a growth engine that can redefine Sri Lanka’s export and investment landscape,” said Sunil Handunnetti, Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development, this week speaking at a news conference as the country prepares to host Boat Show & Conference 2026, South Asia’s premier marine showcase.
The event, to be held from January 30 to February 1, 2026, at Port City Colombo, promises to be the largest and most dynamic edition in its history. Open daily from 3.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m., the show will bring together global industry leaders, investors, policymakers, and marine enthusiasts for three days of innovation, trade, and lifestyle experiences.
Organised by the Chamber of Marine Industries Sri Lanka, the event is backed by the Ministries of Industry, Foreign Affairs, Employment and Tourism, and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB). The strong government support reflects Sri Lanka’s ambition to position itself as a regional hub for boating, yachting, marine tourism, and shipbuilding.
Since its launch in 2008, the Boat & Marine Show has grown from a niche exhibition into South Asia’s largest marine industry event, promoting boating as both business and lifestyle. This year’s edition will feature local and international boat and yacht builders, marine engines, navigation systems, eco-tourism ventures, and charter services. Delegations from India, Singapore, the Maldives, South Korea, Europe, and the Middle East are expected to attend, offering exhibitors direct access to global buyers and decision-makers.
In parallel, Minister Handunnetti announced that the country’s first dedicated boat launching pad, a Rs. 200 million investment in Beruwala, will be completed by March 2026. The project aims to strengthen export competitiveness and enable testing of larger vessels.
With strong industry momentum and government backing, Boat Show 2026 is set to showcase Sri Lanka as the emerging nautical hub of the Indian Ocean where business, innovation, and sustainability converge.
