Ceylon Motor Show to kick off in Colombo after six years
Sri Lanka’s automotive industry is experiencing a high demand for brand new vehicles after the ban on importing vehicles was lifted last year. A significant number of new vehicle models both combustion and electric vehicles, have already taken the streets in Sri Lanka in large numbers. Meanwhile finance and leasing companies are thriving with people going for short- and long-term plans on vehicle purchases.
The Ceylon Motor Show that took place last, six years ago, is returning back to Colombo next weekend on October 24-26 at the BMICH in Colombo. During a media briefing held at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce last week, the Ceylon Motor Traders Association (CMTA) made this official announcement.
CMTA, Chairman, Andrew Perera in his remarks highlighted that a significant number of new vehicle models will be introduced at this year’s motor show with new technologies and the latest features tailored for the Sri Lankan market.
He also mentioned that the partnership with the Classic Car Club of Ceylon that serves over 400 classic car enthusiasts, represents a spectrum of automotive appreciation, from innovation to classic elegance.
The importance of viewing the automotive industry in Sri Lanka is not only about vehicles, but also about vision, community, and passion for the motoring journey, he noted.
While LOLC Finance has step forward to sponsor the Ceylon Motor Show 2025 for the very first time, the company’s Head of Marketing and Communication, Susaan Bandara stated, “the Ceylon Motor Show is recognised as the country’s most notable motor event showcasing, innovation in the automotive field, engineering excellence and latest advancements in auto technology.”
Classic Car Club of Ceylon President, Sanjjv Alles highlighted that classic cars with the latest technology, modernity and heritage will be showcased at this years’ motor show while more than 150 cars will be exhibited in the classic car pavilion at the BMICH.
This year the motor show is expected to unite industry leaders, vehicle enthusiasts, and families, with over 30,000 visitors expected on all three days of the exhibition. The exhibition is set to feature the largest showcase of vehicles ever held in Sri Lanka, including cars, SUVS, motorcycles, trucks and automotive accessories, representing over 30 globally leading brands through their authorised franchise holders in Sri Lanka.
One of the key highlights of this year’s show will be the focus on next-generation mobility, which includes electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, advanced design innovation and interactive demonstrations that provide first-hand experiences of the latest in automotive technology. The CMTA member companies are also preparing exclusive new vehicle launches and models, marking several debuts in the Sri Lankan market.
